THE BROTHERS
The Brothers is a group of tiny islands in Cook Strait, off the west coast of Arapawa Island. The island group is a sanctuary for a rare reptile species, the Brothers Island tuatara. Found only on The Brothers Islands, it differs from the common tuatara in having olive skin with yellowish patches. Although resembling lizards, tuatara are related equally distantly to lizards and snakes, which are their closest living relatives.
